FAQ - FROM BRIDES

STYLE

Q. What is your wedding photography style?
I have a documentary shooting style, as I am passionate about capturing moments naturally, as they unfold.

Raw emotion cannot be posed and therefore the beauty of my skill lies within personally sensing and feeling the emotions as they arise and capturing them in time.

Q. What type of equipment do you use?
I’m currently shooting with a Canon 5D MKii, which is a professional DSLR camera and excellent for wedding photography. On the wedding video side I use a Sony PXW-X70 full HD video camera.

Q. How long have you been in business?
I have been actively involved in the media industry for the past 10 years by taking photographs and filming weddings, as well as filming broadcast and corporate productions.

Q. Do you travel for weddings?
Yes, I do.  Once I know where you are planning to get married, I will work out a package to include traveling & accommodation.  There are special conditions for Port Elizabeth weddings, as I have family & friends whom I can stay with.

Q. Do you have an assistant?
Yes and no.  Mostly, I shoot without an assistant, but when I do weddings far from my familiar surroundings, I prefer to have an assistant who can double up as a photographer, should anything unforeseen happen on the day.  I will clarify this before you book.

Q. Copyright ?
You will receive all the High Resolution Files for personal use only and can make as many copies as you wish. As the photographer,  I hold the copyright to the images and therefore you may not sell them for profit without  written consent from me.

Q. Are there any weddings you won’t shoot?
No, I don’t have a preference. Large, Small, Christian, Gay or Non-religious weddings - all are welcome.

Q. Who is the second photographer if we book the Silver Package?
This will depend on the availability of a photographer on your chosen wedding date.  I work with a list of I photographers whom I know, have worked with, trust and can match my skill and style on the day.

Q. Do you offer video too?
Yes, I do.   You can either book me to film your wedding or you can book the Gold Package, which is a photo & video combo.

Q. If we book you for the Golden Package (Photo & Video), who will be filming our wedding?
I will take on the role of photographer and my partner, Andrew van Wyk, will handle the video side of things. Having filmed more than 200 weddings, I trust his skill and creativity.

Q. How do you supply the photographs?
You will receive a disk with all the High Resolution images for printing, as well as the same batch in Low Resolution format for the convenient use on social media / e-mails.

Q. How many pictures will we receive?
Every wedding is different, but you will receive a minimum of 250 edited images.  It is usually a lot more. I personally don’t believe in making people select images, therefore I select and edit the best photographs and supply you with everything.

Q. Do you edit all the photographs?
I select the best photographs and edit them individually.  I do not apply batch effects.  And no, please don’t ask me for the photographs that did not make the “cut” or the raw, unedited files. My aim is to supply you with the best quality photographs as my high standards require me to do.

Q. How much editing do you do? Can you make me look skinny?
I do not over-edit photographs or apply elaborate effects or frames. I will slightly tweak faces to remove blemishes or spots, but do not smooth skin or hair. One can only do so much editing before the person and the image starts to appear “unnatural”, and that is something that I, as a photographer, do not stand for.  I do however, when shooting,  use flattering angles in order to successfully portray your best features.

Q. How long does it take before we receive our products?
Please allow 6 weeks for completion of the final photographs and photobook. This excludes courier time and 3 weeks annual shutdown during the Christmas period.  Please note that the printing of the Photobook is influenced by an external service provider, but we will keep you informed should any problems arise.

Q. Are your digital files watermarked ?
No.  The images supplied to you are not watermarked.  However, the images I use for advertising purposes on social media or on my website will be watermarked with my logo.

Q. Do you post photographs online ?
Yes, I will post a sneak preview of your wedding on my Sarina Engelbrecht Photography Facebook Page within 1-2 days of your wedding. Once the edit is complete, I will upload a selection to my website gallery and supply you with a link.

Q. How long will you stay with us on our wedding day?
My packages cover up to 8 hours.  I start with the bride about 1-2 hours before the ceremony and ending time is 22:00.  Should all of your formalities not be complete by 22:00, I will ask if you would like me to stay longer to cover them. The additional time will then be billed according to my over time rates at the time, as stipulated on your contract.

Q. How does the Photobook design process work?
You will receive your package all together with the photobook and your disk with photographs.
As a graphic designer who thrives on individually designing each photobook according to the theme of the bridal couple’s wedding, I find that the surprise of seeing the book for the first time is diminished when the couple had to select photos and sit through digital proofs.  For this reason, I claim creative licence and choose the photographs to go into the book, which are best suited to tell the story of the day.

Q. Do you pose photographs?
I prefer not to pose photographs, but there are a few exceptions. I pose family and group photographs, as I’d like them all to look at the camera and I do some general posing shots with the bridal couple during their photo session. Other than that, I rely on the day to unfold naturally.

Q. I don’t think I’m photogenic and I’m not always comfortable with photos - Can You Help Me?
Yes, of course!  I personally think that everyone is photogenic at the right angle!  That’s right, you do have a good side! :-)  My aim is to make you feel comfortable and relaxed, so that your true beauty can shine through! By making use of natural posing, I will make sure you look lovely in all your photos whilst having fun at the same time!  For this reason,  I suggest doing a pre-wedding shoot so that we are all comfortable with each other before the wedding!

Q. Do we need to provide meals & seating for you at the reception?
Yes, please.  This is one of my contractual requirements.

Q. Do you mind family & friends taking photographs?
Not at all. They are more than welcome to join in for the family / group photographs, but I prefer that no one accompany the bridal couple for their shoot, since privacy is a big plus to getting those beautiful intimate moments between the newly weds .

Q. When is the best time for photographs?
The best time is 1-2 hours before sunset to get that beautiful golden light.  Sunset times will differ according to season - so best to check your weather app!  Should you have a morning wedding, we will scout a location that is not too bright or perhaps do a very early shoot.

Q. How much time do you need for the family & bridal couple photo session?
I require 1h30 min - 2 hours.  I normally try to get the family & group photos done right after the ceremony, after which the bridal couple will go to their special location for photographs.  I try to work within that time limit, as you don’t want to keep your guests waiting about for 3 hours!

Q. Do we need to supply you with a “shot list” of photos we require ?

Yes and No.

Yes - it is a good idea to make a list of the family photographs that you require.  Especially when it is a large family - sometimes Granny wanders off - which results in her not being on the photos.  Assign one of your family members / bridesmaids the task of making sure that everyone is there for family photos.

And then No - I have a specific shooting style and would prefer that you not ask me to copy someone else’s work or style

Q.  Can we choose our own music for the Wedding Video?
Yes.  You can supply me with 10 x songs of your choice in MP3 format via delivery on USB or making use of an online file exchange called “WeTransfer”.

Q.  How many Wedding Video Copies do we get?
You will receive 2 x DVD copies supplied in black polybox with an individually designed cover.  Additional copies are available at R150.00 each

Q.  How long is a standard Wedding Video?
We supply a full video edit, which is approximately 1h45min long. It includes the full ceremony, speeches, snippets of the day, as well as a 3-5min highlights video.

Q.  We like your style - can we meet up before booking you?
But of course!  You need to be comfortable with my style, as well as with me as a person.  It really does make a difference to the final product if you like your photographer! :-)   While I would love to meet up, I understand that busy schedules and distance can sometimes prevent that. Should I not be able to meet in person, we can always schedule a Skype session.

Q. Do you require a deposit and do we need to sign a contract?
Yes, I require a 50% deposit of your chosen package - the balance is due one (1) calendar week before the wedding date.  Yes, you will be required to sign a contract, which you can happily request and peruse before making your final decision.

Q. Can we pay part before and part after the wedding?
Unfortunately not.  The total amount is required before the wedding date. The only exceptions are over time and additional DVD / Photobook orders, which will be billed after your wedding.

Q. How do we book you?
You can e-mail me to confirm that you will be making use of my services, after which you will receive a contract.
Only once we receive your signed contract and your deposit, your date is fully reserved. The balance will be due one (1) calendar week prior to the wedding date.

Q.  I’m getting married in Port Elizabeth - Can we meet up when you are in town?
Yes, by all means!  I visit Port Elizabeth at least once a month and would love to meet up to discuss your wedding! Please request that I inform you of my available dates.

Q. What happens after the booking?
We will start pre-wedding consultations leading up to the day and perhaps schedule a pre-wedding shoot in order for us to get to know each other and get comfortable!

Q.  Do you attend wedding rehearsals?
Yes, I do, whenever possible - taking distance & location into consideration.

Q.  I want a karoo wedding - Can we get married in Nieu-Bethesda?
Yes, it is a breathtaking village tucked away at the foot of the Sneeuberg mountain range.  As luck would have it, you can get married in the most beautiful, rustic Wedding Venue, called Die Waenhuis.
